Primo bello Púnico
Régulus, dux Románus,
captus a Poenis,
de captívis commutándis
Romam missus est.
Is,
cum Carthágine abíret,
iurávit
se eo reditúrum
nisi sui cives
conditiónes fecíssent.
At ille
in senátu
captívos non esse commutándos
declarávit:
deinde,
cum propínqui et amíci
retinére conaréntur,
ex urbe decéssit:
quia
ad supplícium redíre máluit,
quam
fidem hosti datam fállere.
